Acoustic and thermal simulations of tcMRgFUS in patient specific models: validation with experiments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background/introduction In tcMRgFUS, acoustic and spatial heterogeneities of the skull cause reflection, attenuation, and phase aberrations of the acoustic beams, which may cause patient-specific thermal responses to the same transducer power. In this work, we use acoustic and thermal simulations based on patient-specific 3D heterogeneous tissue models to predict heating at the center of the brain. We validate the model through comparison of the simulated temperature rises to experimentally derived energies for five patients treated using tcMRgFUS. Further, we separate the components of energy loss in the acoustic simulations into reflection-only, attenuation-only, phase aberration-only, and reflection and attenuation both to understand the cause of potential inter-patient variability in these treatments.

Preclinical evaluation of a low-frequency transcranial MRI-guided focused ultrasound system in a primate model.
This study investigated thermal ablation and skull-induced heating with a 230 kHz transcranial MRI-guided focused ultrasound (TcMRgFUS) system in nonhuman primates. We evaluated real-time acoustic feedback and aimed to understand whether cavitation contributed to the heating and the lesion formation. In four macaques, we sonicated thalamic targets at acoustic powers of 34-560 W (896-7590 J). Ti...

The thermal balance analysis is a useful method to determine energy distribution and efficiency of internal combustion (IC) engines. In engines cooling concepts, estimation of heat transfer to brake power ratio, as one of the most significant performance characteristics, is highly demanded. In this paper, investigation of energy balance and derivation of specific heat rejection is carried out e...
متن کاملA patient-specific study of blood flow in a cerebral aneurysm using medical images
Background: Cerebral aneurysm disease causes intracranial hemorrhage by rupturing, which can eventually, lead to organ failure or death. For this reason, it is important to anticipate the reasons for rupturing of a cerebral aneurysm from biomechanical point of view. Investigating this disease may even help the physicians to find treatments and predict the patient’s situation. This research was ...

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...
متن کاملModulational instability of dust ion acoustic waves in astrophysical dusty plasmas with non thermal electrons
Propagation of dust ion acoustic waves in plasmas composed of nonthermal distributed electrons and stationary dust particles is investigated. Nonlinear Schrdinger equation is derived to describe small amplitude waves, using the reduction perturbation technique. Modulation instability of dust ion acoustic waves is analysed for this system. Parametric investigation indicates that growth rate of...
